Diego was due Dec 28th, which came and past with no signs of him showing up. Previously we had set an induction date so that I didn't go into my 42 week. It was set for Jan 5th, a Tuesday. The Sunday before we went to church and I wasn't feeling well. I was cramping and just felt blah. So after Sacrament meeting I went home to nap. I felt a little better after that. We had a pretty lazy day after Isaac got home from his meetings. Then we received a phone call from my doctor to make sure I was doing ok and let me know some things that I needed to do for my induction on Monday morning. WHAT?! The people who scheduled my induction told me wrong. So after we found out that it was going to be the next morning, we hurried and did some last minute chores (laundry, dishes, etc.)
We wanted to go to bed early so that we would have enough sleep to handle the oncoming day. Yeah that didn't happen. We both couldn't sleep for the life of us. Finally around 12:30 Isaac fell asleep, but no such luck for me. My cramps started to get worse so I decided to take a warm shower to relax. I got back in bed around 1:30. I tossed and turned for a while and then I began to drift off to sleep. I was half awake and half asleep when I felt like I wet my pants. That woke me up! I got up to see what was going on. No I hadn't wet myself, my water had broke! I woke Isaac up and within 10 or 15 minutes my contractions started. And they were HARD! Sorry if this is TMI, but I was throwing up and bent over. And I was MAD! Poor Isaac got yelled at many times for suggesting things like, "lets put on your pants so we can go to the hospital". When we finally got me all dressed and in the car, Isaac sped to the hospital. I was in a lot of pain and so tired! We got me all checked in and I decided I wanted an epidural.
Ahhhh, the power of drugs. Although I must say, the anesthiologist was a tool. He came into my room, didn't even introduce himself and barked, "you need to cooperate". Nice to meet you too. Isaac was a champ though all of this. Poor guy. I was in so much pain when they were putting in my epideral I nearly sawed off his fingers with my fingernails. I didn't want to be the only one in pain. But after I got the drugs in me, I was nice again.
By 7:00 I was ready to push. I pushed for about an hour and half. Diego was being stubborn and didn't want to come out. His head was in a weird position in the birth canal. I would push and he would move down, but once I stopped pushing he would move right back up. The epidural was great for getting me out of pain so I could rest, but when it came time to push, I could feel how to do it. I kinda regret getting it for that reason. Because Diego's head was in a weird position, it was putting a lot of stress on him. His heart rate would spike and drop too rapidly and he was stuck. So the doctor wanted to do a c section. Isaac and I felt that was the best option because we wanted him out safe.
So they prepped me for surgery and wheeled me away. This boy was big! They had a hard time get him out of me with a c section. The doctor had to lay on my stomach to push him out.
Diego was born at 12:12 on January 4th, 2010. He weighed 8lbs 15oz and was 20 inches long. He cried intally of course, but then calmed right down. He is such a peaceful, content baby. We stayed in the hospital for 5 days so that I could recover. It was a good time.
We love Diego so much and feel so blessed to have him in our family, but I gotta go now cause the little angel is waking up from his nap and wants to eat!

Yay! I've been waiting for this post! So glad that Diego is here :)
I had a c-section too, with Lizzie; sometimes that's the best way to get them out if they are stressed. I didn't mind it at all (after 13 hours or labor haha). Good luck with your recovery and getting your sleep! Love ya!
We are so happy for you! Can't wait for some cute pics. I would definitely recommend reading "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". Just ask Rachel Odom, it is the best!
Wow, what a story! With a very happy ending. Diego's so cute!
Hey guys! I didn't even know that you had a blog until today. (Saw a link on Steph Hennings' blog...) Hope things are going well. This is kind of a little bit crazy month for us, but let us know when you guys are settled in and we can hang out. Say hi to the little guy for us!

Congrats!! I'm glad you posted Diego's birth story! Good luck getting rest and healing.
I just wrote on Isaac's F.B. Man what a little cutie pie!! I want to hold and squeeze him sooooo much!!! Give lots of kisses from his favorite auntie.
Hi! We were in your ward before you moved, do you remember us? I'm so excited you had a baby! We had a little girl around the same time. Her name is Camilla. She was due Jan 4th, but due to Preeclampsia I was induced Christmas Day, the 25th! I got my epidural at 8:30 Christmas morning after bad pains all night. I called my mom and said, "I just got the best Christmas Present EVER!!" It's amazing how the pain went away. We love being parents. Hope you are doing great in Cali! We miss you in the ward!
